A minor boy, Suryakant Samal, was killed during a group clash over Ganesh idol immersion in Dhusuria area of Khuntuni village, Cuttack district. The violence erupted between two groups using knives and machetes, leaving four others critically injured.

Ganesh idol immersion ceremony turned violent

A minor boy was killed in a group clash that erupted during immersion of Lord Ganesh idols in Dhusuria area of Khuntuni village in Cuttack district of Odisha.

The deceased has been identified as Suryakant Samal.

Reportedly, minor skirmishes between two groups quickly turned violent during the immersion of Ganesh idols in the area on Tuesday.

The situation intensified as both groups used knives and machetes to attack, resulting in the death of Suryakant. Besides, four other persons who sustained injuries were subsequently transferred to SCB Medical College in Cuttack in critical condition.

“My brother was attacked and killed during the immersion ceremony. They also stabbed two others but my brother died. We demand death penalty for the accused,” said the deceased’s sister.

Meanwhile, police have detained two persons in connection with the murder for interrogation.
