Massive fire breaks out at Unit-I Market Building in Bhubaneswar on Diwali
Dozens of garment stores were gutted after a massive fire broke out in the underground market at the Unit-I Market Building area in Bhubaneswar on Thursday, the night of Diwali.
While there have been no reports of casualties, the fire damaged valuables worth lakhs of rupees.
Firefighters rushed to the scene and battled for hours to finally douse the flames. The cause of the fire is suspected to be firecrackers, but no exact reason has been ascertained as of now.
According to reports, the fire broke out in a saree store and soon spread like wildfire. Some locals spotted the fire and alerted fire services personnel, who rushed to the spot and doused the flames.
As per preliminary reports, at least 25-26 garment stores were completely gutted, while many others were partially damaged in the mishap.
Fortunately, the flames were doused by fire service personnel within a couple of hours before it would have affected several other shops.
