Unidentified miscreants decamped with cash worth Rs 9.35 lakh at gunpoint from Gitarani Mohanty Mines in Raikela under the Tensa police outpost of Rourkela in Sundargarh district. Disguised as drivers, the masked miscreants reached the office armed with axes and guns and committed the crime.
The incident occurred in the wee hours of Thursday. Wearing masks and towels tied around their head, the miscreants knocked on the door of the company’s office. They threatened the employees at gunpoint and fled with the cash.
The entire incident has been caught in the CCTV camera installed inside the office. The involvement of locals behind the robbery is suspected. However, there has been no official confirmation in this regard.
“The robbers had come at around 12 am at night. They knocked out the main door of the office and held all of us at gunpoint. They beat up us and threatened to kill us if we did not give them the locker keys. Out of fear, we gave them the keys and they fled with the cash,” informed Hiradhar Sahoo.
“There were six robbers who looted cash around Rs 9.35 lakh. Three of them were inside the office while three others were waiting outside,” he added.
On being informed, local police rushed to the spot and launched a probe. The cops have been examining the CCTV footage to nab the miscreants, sources said.
