Developmental initiatives in Mandipanka village
Following the death of three tribal women allegedly after consuming gruel prepared from Mango kernel in Mandipanka village under the Daringbadi block of Kandhamal district, local authorities have started taking corrective measures to support the affected community.
Previously, the Mandipanka villagers trekked around nine kilometres to obtain rice rations; however, a local rice distribution centre has now been opened to ease this burden.
Further infrastructure enhancements include the laying of paver block roads and a continual solar-powered tubewell for the availability of drinking water around the clock.
Moreover, in a bid to strengthen the community's livelihoods, at least 37 families have been provided poultry, with additional support of goats. More poultry is planned for economically underprivileged families. Officials, including the Daringbadi Block Development Officer (BDO), have committed to ongoing assistance for the families.
“We will provide poultry and goats to backward families to support their financial status and make them economically empowered,” BDO Pritiranjan Rath said when contacted.
Worth mentioning, is the fatal incident has claimed three lives in the village nearly a month ago. The deceased were Rumita Patamajhi, Runu Majhi, and Jita Majhi. Six others, who had consumed kernel, were also taken critically ill.
In a positive development, Tuni Majhi, one of the victims who survived, has returned home after receiving treatment at SCB Hospital in Cuttack for her critical condition.
On November 7, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) and BJD supremo, Naveen Patnaik targeted the Odisha government over the alleged death of tribal women.
