Man fakes kidnap drama to embezzle finance company’s money in Odisha, held

 A finance company staff, who allegedly staged his own fake kidnap drama to misappropriate the firm's collected money, was detained by Tantiapal marine police in Kendrapara district on Sunday.
 
According to the police, the accused, identified as Swagat Samal, a resident of Kentapada village under Mahakalpara police limits, decamped with the company’s collected money amounting to around Rs 2 lakh. 

He was hiding in different locations in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. While he went missing on Thursday, a missing report was lodged at the police station. In order to make his kidnap drama appear genuine, he had left his bike and slippers by the roadside before going into hiding, said police. 

During investigation, police came to know about him taking the finance company’s money and zeroed in on their investigation on him and eventually nabbed him from a place. The police are yet to reveal the name of the place from where they apprehended him. 

The cops recovered Rs 1.23 lakh from his possession. A detailed investigation is underway, police said.
