In a shocking incident, a man allegedly hacked his wife to death with a sharp weapon at Gujidarada village in Bhadrak’s Purunabazar on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Runu Bibi from Mirzapur village under Burunabazar Police limits. She was allegedly murdered by her husband Sk Mojul Hussain from Gujidarada village.

They were married for 14 years and have two daughters.

As per reports, Runu had been tortured by her husband and in-laws since a long time over demands of dowry and for giving birth two back to back girl children.

However, another domestic dispute occurred in their family on Monday following which Mojul allegedly killed Runu.

The family of the deceased has lodged complaints against Mojul, his two sisters and their husbands for killing Runu. Apart from that the family has also filed a complaint against Gujidarada outpost Constable Barkat Ali Khan for not accepting a previous torture complaint against Mojul.

The family denied handing over Runu’s body to the Police for post-mortem if FIR is not lodged against all the persons in their complaint. Tension prevailed in Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital on Tuesday for quite some time, which was later dissipated after the Gujidarada Outpost In-Charge and Bhadrak City DSP pacified them assuring them to take action against the culprits in seven days.

“He (Her husband) used to torture my sister regularly. He finally killed her with a machete yesterday. The police assured us to provide a copy of the FIR after the post-mortem. When we received the FIR copy we found names of only six persons in it. The police have dropped the name of Barkat Ali Khan. We want Barkat’s name in the FIR,” said a cousin of the deceased Sk Afsar Ali.

Asked about the allegations, Bhadrak City DSP Anshuman Dwivedi said, “A probe will be conducted and everybody named in the FIR will be questioned. Action will be taken against all the persons responsible for this crime based on the evidence.”

“As far as the allegation against the police is concerned, a senior officer will conduct an inquiry. Departmental action will be initiated against the police if negligence of duty is proven against them,” Dwivedi added.

Notably, Mojul had allegedly attacked Runu in 2022 too, the case of which is still sub-judice in court. A video has even surfaced with Mojul roaming on the village streets with a sharp weapon in his hand nine days before.
