The ‘mysterious’ death of Gobinda Sahu , the prime accused in the sensational murder case of lady teacher Mamita Meher, has triggered a political slugfest in Odisha.

Taking a dig at the ruling BJD government, the Opposition BJP and Congress have alleged that Sahu has been murdered.

Launching a scathing attack on the government, BJP Mahila Morcha president Smruti Pattanaik said, "It is an effort to give clean chit to Dibya Shankar Mishra. Probe must be conducted to find out whether he was killed or forced to commit suicide."

“So far, there is no conclusion into the Mamita murder case. The sensational murder of the lady teacher had sent shockwaves across the country. All the evidence of the murder case has now been buried with the death of Sahu,” the saffron party leader said adding that, “Sahu was forced to take the extreme step.”

Echoing the same view, Congress claimed a big conspiracy behind the suicide of Sahu.

"Former minister Dibya Shankar Mishra had promised his release, but reneged on his words. We suspect it's a murder, not suicide. A CBI probe can only find out the truth," Congress MLA Santosh Singh Saluja said.

However, amid attack from the Opposition, the ruling BJD preferred to refrain from commenting on the matter.

“As the matter is still sub-judice, it is not right to make any comments on the same. The court will decide what to do next,” said BJD MLA Amar Prasad Satpathy.

On the other hand, Mamita murder case accused Gobinda Sahu’s wife said "My husband has been murdered". He was a mentally strong person. He can never take such a step," she added.
