Vedanta Ltd has pledged Rs 1 lakh crore for an alumina refinery and aluminium plant, marking the largest investment in Odisha. Announced at the Make in Odisha Conclave 2025, this will generate 2 lakh jobs and focus on green aluminium powered by renewable energy.

Mining giant Vedanta Ltd has announced to invest a whopping Rs 1 lakh crore in Odisha to set up an alumina refinery and aluminium plant, which will be the largest investment ever made in the eastern state. The announcement was made during Utkarsh Odisha, the Make in Odisha Conclave 2025. 

The investment will create at least 2 lakh new jobs in the state and will be directed towards establishing a 6 million tons alumina refinery and a 3 million tons per annum capacity aluminium plant. The massive project will majorly focus on producing green aluminium powered by renewable energy.

“This will create a massive industrial complex for the downstream industries, as there are more than hundreds of applications of Aluminum which is used in auto, power, construction and railway sectors,” Vedanta said in a statement.

“This investment will create opportunities for 1000s of MSMEs. As Aluminium is the metal of the future, demand for Aluminum is likely to double by 2030,” Vedanta added.

“Odisha has always played an important role in Vedanta’s growth. Our investments reflect our commitment to the state’s inclusive growth and driving large-scale industrialization,” said Vedanta’s Chairman Anil Agarwal.

Odisha CM Mohan Majhi said, “Odisha’s new double-engine government is committed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047. We target to make Odisha a half trillion dollar economy by 2030.”
