Locals detain truck that caused accident
A major accident was narrowly averted in Kendrapara district after a truck belonging to the Pruthviraj Jatra party lost control and rammed into two roadside shops and a parked bike near the Duhuria Chhak under Kendrapara Sadar Police limits.
The incident occurred while the truck was returning from Pattamundai, carrying equipment for the theatre troupe. As it approached the District Education Officer's office area, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, veering off the road and crashing directly into two pan shops located nearby.
Fortunately, the shops were closed at the time of the accident, and no one was present inside or nearby, thereby preventing any injuries or fatalities.
After damaging the shops, the truck continued for a short distance before dragging a parked motorcycle along with it. The bike, which was stationed just by the roadside, was severely damaged due to the impact.
Eyewitnesses and local residents quickly gathered at the spot and detained the truck driver, suspecting rash driving as the cause of the accident. The vehicle was brought to a halt, and police were immediately informed.
A team from Kendrapara Sadar Police Station soon arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation. Primary assessments indicate that the driver may have lost balance while negotiating the narrow stretch near the office. The truck has been seized and the driver is being questioned.
Police have assured that appropriate action will be taken based on the investigation and that damages to the affected shops and bike will be duly recorded. Further inquiries are underway.
