A youth was thrashed by locals and subsequently handed over to the police on Friday while attempting to abduct a college-going girl at gunpoint in Jaleswar area of Balasore district. 

The accused has been identified as Braja Gopala Das. 

According to sources, Das entered Surendra Nath College when a sporting event was underway and pointed a gun at the girl. Das tried to forcibly abduct the girl at gunpoint when the onlookers and teachers rushed to the spot, overpowered him, and thrashed him.

After getting thrashed by locals, Das was handed over to the police. 

The police arrested Das and initiated an investigation into the matter. 

A teacher of the college said, “During our college’s sports event, the accused suddenly entered the field. The students got panicked seeing the gun which was in the possession of the youth. When he pointed the gun at the girl, some teachers along with the onlookers overpowered him and thrashed him. Later, we handed him over to the police."
