Love-struck youth steals mobile phone, transfers Rs 1.7 lakh to buy gift for girlfriend

The accused has been identified as Apendra Pani from Jamunahandi under Kotapad police limits. As per reports Apendra transferred the amount to buy gifts for his girlfriend.

A love-struck youth from Kotapad in Koraput stole a mobile phone from a shop near his girlfriend’s house at Janiguda in Koraput town and used it to transfer Rs 1.7 lakh from the mobile owner’s bank account to his own account.

The accused has been identified as Apendra Pani from Jamunahandi under Kotapad police limits.

As per reports Apendra transferred the amount to buy gifts for his girlfriend.

Sources said, Apendra had visited the shop many times before whenever he went to see his girlfriend at Janiguda. However, the last time Apendra visited the shop, he lifted the phone of the shop owner.

Speaking about the case, Koraput SDPO, Manoj Pujari said, “An elderly man, Naveen Chandra Patnaik had filed a complaint at Koraput Town Police Station on May 3, 2023 alleging a youth had stolen his mobile phone from his shop and used the same to transfer Rs 1.7 lakh to his account.”

“The accused was using three mobile devices and six different SIM cards to evade the police. But we finally apprehended him from Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh. He has confessed to his crime,” the SDPO added.

The police have recovered Rs 70,000 cash and three mobile phones from his possession.
