During the probe, Rs 4.3 lakh in cash, mobile phones, and ATM cards used in the crimes were seized by the cyber police from the possession of the accused.
According to police sources, in a major crackdown on cybercrime, the Cuttack Police have arrested six cybercriminals involved in a large-scale online fraud. Acting on an FIR previously lodged by the LIC officer who was allegedly cheated of Rs 78 lakh, the cyber police launched an intensive investigation leading to the arrests and seizure of cash.
Six arrested individuals hail from the Patnagarh locality of Bolangir. The fraudsters had lured their victims by promising high returns and sent deceptive messages through their mobile phones. The victims were then manipulated through various mobile applications to transfer large sums of money.
Authorities stated that the investigation is underway and further arrests may follow.
Cybercriminals had sent a link
“After a detailed probe into a complaint, our cyber police identified that it was a trading app-based fraud. The accused had sent a link on Telegram to the targeted person. Later, they duped Rs 78 lakh from him,” Cuttack DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo said.
“The victim was promised high returns on his investment. He was shown high returns on an interface of the app to lure. The probe team arrested six persons in this connection from Bolangir. Further probe is underway,” the Cuttack DCP expressed in a presser.
