Fourteen months have passed by, but the wait for justice seems endless for the family of Daityaraj Nayak, who was brutally murdered and his body was stuffed inside a sack and dumped in a canal.

Kin of the deceased have been reportedly running from pillar to post to get justice for their son but in vain. Hopeless family members have brought serious allegations of inaction by police in this regard.

According to reports, Daityaraj’s body was recovered from a canal stuffed inside a gunny bag near Panda Park slum under Chandrasekharpur Police limits in June 2022. Family members had accused a few youths in the same locality of killing their son.

Based on the complaint by family members, Chandrasekharpur Police registered a case of murder and launched a probe into the matter. However, 14 months have passed, but the police have failed to crack the murder case.

Instead of arresting the culprits, the cops have been accused of framing the kin of the deceased in a false case and arresting them. The family members have further alleged being ill-treated and often threatened by the police.

“People from my own locality have killed my son. I have been running from pillar to post to get justice, but no one pays heed to my plight. The cops have been extending dates and ill-treating me. Now, there is a threat to my life. The accused people are threatening to kill me also. But, the police are doing nothing. We have no other choice, but to commit mass suicide,” said a heartbroken father of the deceased.

“We suspected a youth identified as Happy Gedu. He is the son of the brown sugar mafia. He had taken my son from the house on the pretext of haircut. Later, his body was found tied in a rope and stuffed inside a bag. Even as 14 months have passed by, police are not finding the culprit, but they are torturing me,” he added.
