Odisha government suspended Kendrapara district Excise Superintendent, Debi Prasad Mishra for dereliction of duty on Friday. Action against Mishra has been taken for allegedly demanding  bribe in the name of a specific politician’s name. 

In a letter, the Excise Department informed that the Governor of Odisha, in the exercise of the power conferred by clause (a) of sub-rule (1) of Rule 12 of the Odisha Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1962 has suspended Mishra. 

Sources said Kendrapara Tehsildar, Tapas Dehury will be the Excise Superintendent in-charge till the appointment of a new Excise Superintendent. 

Days ago, an audio clip of the Excise Superintendent demanding monthly protection money from a liquor vendor went viral, exposing the corruption.

While the suspended officer is keeping mum about the allegations and action taken against him, Deputy Excise Commissioner Ramchandra Mishra has initiated a probe into the case. 

 “As per the direction of the Excise Commissioner, I am here to investigate the allegation,” said Mishra. 

Informing about the development, Kendrapara district Collector, Surjyawanshi Mayur Vikas said, “A letter from the department is received. As per the directions, he has been put under suspension. Kendrapara Tehsildar will be the excise superintendent in-charge till the appointment of a new excise superintendent."
