The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is all set to bring the Kapileshwar Temple in Old Town, Bhubaneswar under its ambit and tag it as a ‘Monument of National Importance.’
The information was shared by Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi on Tuesday.
Taking to Twitter, Sarangi wrote, “Ministry of Culture, GoI, decides to declare Kapileshwar Temple, Old Bhubaneswar, as 'Monument of National Importance'. On request of the temple priests, I had visited the temple sometime back. Held discussions with the residents. Met Minister G Kishan Reddy on 4th April, '23.” (sic)
“Grateful to Minister G Kishan Reddy & ASI for acting so promptly. On 5th May, 2023, the Gazette Notification has been brought out. Kapileshwar Temple will go to the Protected Monument list of ASI. Better preservation, better upkeep. Temple priests & residents are happy,” she tweeted. (sic)
The Gazette notification in this connection issued on May 6 said, “The Central Government is of the opinion that the ancient monument namely Kapileshwar temple, District Khurda. State Odisha, is an ancient monument of national importance.”
“Now, therefore, the Central Government hereby gives notice of its intention to declare the said ancient monument to be of national importance. Any objection or suggestion to the declaration of the said ancient monument as 'monument of national importance' may be made within a period of two months from the date of issue of this notification to the Director General, Archaeological Survey of India, 24 Tilak Marg, New Delhi-110001,” the notification read.
The objections or suggestions if any, received from any person with respect to the said draft notification within the period so specified shall be taken into consideration by the Central Government.
