A youth was allegedly tied up and brutally beaten in an instance of extrajudicial violence in Saintala village in Jubamal panchayat of Bolangir district following a verdict handed out by a ‘kangaroo court’ set up by local villagers.

The victim, identified as Durbadal Bhoi, sustained severe injuries and was admitted to Bhima Bhoi Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.

Extrajudicial Beating Over Minor Dispute

Sources reported that the attack stemmed from a trivial disagreement among villagers. The assailants, including Jagat Ram Bhoi and Khage Bhoi, allegedly took Durbadal to a private residence, bound his hands, and repeatedly struck him with sticks.

Witnesses described the assault as relentless and extremely violent, leaving the victim bloodied and incapacitated.

Medical Emergency

Following the assault, Durbadal was taken to Bhima Bhoi Medical College Hospital by fellow villagers. Doctors reported multiple contusions and lacerations consistent with repeated stick blows. Further, his frail condition exacerbated the severity of the attack, requiring intensive care and ongoing monitoring.

Police Action And Investigation

Later in the day, Saintala police arrived at the scene and took stock of the situation. Police have registered a case against the perpetrators. Reports added that authorities are actively investigating the incident, recording statements, and collecting evidence.

While police confirmed that the attack was carried out in an organised manner and that unlawful ‘kangaroo court’ proceedings were conducted by local villagers, it refused to add any comments regarding police action on the matter.
