Jumbo found unconscious in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj forest

Villagers in the scenic village of Golamundakata under Bangriposi forest range of tribal-dominated Mayurbhanj District were met with an unexpected discovery early this morning—an elephant, found unconscious in the vicinity.

The jumbo, believed to be female and aged between eight and ten years, was spotted lying unconscious, sparking fear among locals. However, it remained unclear if it was alive or dead.

Concerned villagers who stumbled upon the unconscious pachyderm promptly notified the authorities concerned.

On being informed, officers from the forest department, including the Ranger and Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF), swiftly reached the scene to assess the situation.

With approximately 30 elephants known to be wandering around the Golamundakata area, officials suspect a fight with another elephant might be the cause of its condition. Precise details about the elephant's fate remain dubious.

The Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Baripada remarked that the status of the elephant would be determined once a team of veterinarians conduct an examination.
"The medical team is en route to evaluate the condition. We will soon ascertain if the animal is alive or has sadly passed," the DFO remarked.

The local community and wildlife enthusiasts remain concerned as they wait for further updates on the elephant’s condition. The incident highlights ongoing challenges in managing human-wildlife interactions in areas where elephant populations are prevalent.
