JSW to develop captive jetty in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur, project to generate 3400 jobs
The Odisha Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, cleared five proposals, including the concession agreement to be signed between the Odisha government and JSW Utkal Steel Limited for the development of a captive jetty at Jatadhar Muhan in Jagatsinghpur.
This strategic move is aimed at supporting JSW’s upcoming integrated steel plant and captive power plant in the region.
The proposed all-weather, multi-cargo greenfield jetty received in-principle approval in 2018, following the High-Level Clearance Authority’s nod to the steel plant project in 2017.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was previously signed between the Commerce & Transport Department and JSW Utkal Steel to facilitate the jetty's establishment.
Project To Provide Massive Job Opportunity
As per the Odisha Port Policy 2022, the project is expected to boost port-led industrial development and improve port infrastructure. It is projected to generate approximately 3,450 direct and indirect employment opportunities and significantly enhance state revenue.
The Odisha Maritime Board has been assigned the responsibility of monitoring and ensuring the project's successful implementation and operations.
Other Proposals Passed By Cabinet
Besides, the cabinet also passed several proposals of the Commerce & Transport, Electronics and Information Technology, Health and Family Welfare and Works and General Administration departments, Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja told reporters after the meeting.
