Private buses parked in Jeypore
The Private Bus Owners' Association in Jeypore City agreed to vacate encroachments on the National Highway following a meeting with the district administration on Thursday, marking a major breakthrough toward clearing the National Highway of encroachments.
Persistent severe traffic issues on the NH-26 passing through Jeypore of Koraput district were reported repeatedly after private buses illegally parked their buses by the busy stretch, according to reports.
The issue prevailed despite the availability of new government and private bus stands in the city. As such, the situation drew multiple complaints from the general public and various organizations.
After several such grievances were filed before the District Collector, the administration held a joint meeting and decided on strict measures to address the problem.
As per the new directive, illegal parking on the national highway will attract penalties, and action will be taken against the bus owners involved.
“The private bus owners’ association has been instructed to make their private bus stand functional. Stoppages along the NH will not be permitted from now on,” stated AS Reddy, sub-collector of Jeypore.
Speaking to the media, Reddy also appealed to the bus owners as well as the general public to avoid congesting the National Highway and instead hail buses from the new government bus stand or the upcoming private bus stand in the city.
The bus owners have reportedly agreed to this arrangement and have ensured cooperation to ensure smoother traffic flow along the National Highway.
