A jawan was reportedly injured during training at Chandaka SOG camp in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.

As per initial reports, the jawan, identified as Havildar Umakant Mallick sustained bullet injury during ‘biryani exercise’ (battle inoculation). Sources said that the exercise was conducted by an instructor and a bullet somehow hit the havildar’s leg during the training exercise.

Following the ‘accidental firing’, the injured jawan has been admitted to the hospital.

In April 2020, a thirty four-year-old SOG havildar died following a hand grenade explosion reportedly during a training exercise at the Chandaka training centre on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. The deceased was Prakash Sahoo, a resident of Katapali village in Bargarh district.

Two other cadets, Sergeant Barsha Hansdah and Sergeant Subhakant Sahu also had sustained injuries in the accident then.
