Intense cold and snowfall-like conditions disrupt lives in Sundargarh, Odisha. The IMD forecasts more rain followed by a cold wave post-Christmas.

Early morning scenes in Bonai under intense cold

Following a period of overcast skies and light rainfall, intense chill and a sharp drop in temperature have gripped Bonai and adjacent areas of Sundargarh district in Odisha, throwing normal lives out of gear.

Earlier also, Sundargarh district shivered under a persistent cold wave, with reports of snowfall-like conditions and frost accumulation at various places. However, a few days back, a low pressure-turned-depression brought cloudy skies, resulting in a slight temperature increase.

Meanwhile, fresh ground visuals from Bonai showcased disruptions in everyday lives as haze and fog coupled with a cold spell swept through the area. Scenes such as morning walkers being forced to start their daily jogs later than usual and students having to brave the bone-chilling cold to reach their tutorials described the onset of a fresh cold wave.

“The cold is so intense that we are hardly able to walk out of our homes,” stated a morning walker in Bonai before adding that their hands and legs felt like collapsing because of the cold.
