If everything goes as per the plan, all the districts of Odisha will get an integrated public health laboratory and there will be a block public health laboratory at each block community health centre (CHC).

On the sidelines of a workshop, Odisha Public Health director, Dr Niranjan Mishra informed about the plan of establishing such laboratories in the districts and CHCs.

“An integrated public laboratory is going to be established in each district. Similarly, each block CHC will have a block public health laboratory. To strengthen the laboratory system, we have to make a laboratory integrated with many facilities. Services like haematology, microbiology, cytology, and pathology should be available under one roof,” Dr. Mishra said.

“For this, new buildings are going to be constructed. A person visits one place and receives reports from there. Such facilities have already been rolled out in Malkangiri and Nuapada, and all the districts will have such facilities in two to three years,” he added.
