According to sources, a woman of Imam Nagar had allegedly brought the baby from Sishu Bhawan in Cuttack and kept him in her house. During this period, she was planning to sell him to someone else.

In the nick of the time, the Childline was tipped-off about the woman and her intentions. Taking the piece of information seriously, Childline officials along with police reached at the tipped-off house and found the information to be true.

The baby was rescued and has been sent to Basundhara shelter home located at Bidanasi.

Meanwhile, police have detained two women and are interrogating them in this connection to ascertain the identity of the biological mother and the circumstance which led her to sell the baby.

“Acting on a tip-off, the Childline and police rescued a baby boy aged around 10 to 12 days from a house in Jagatpur area. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the woman is not related to the baby biologically. An investigation has been ordered,” said Pramod Kumar Acharya, Child Welfare Committee official.
