Infant girl Bijayini, who was miraculously rescued from a borewell at Laripalli under Rengali block, was discharged from VIMSAR, Burla on Thursday.
The time-tested Odia saying ‘Rakhe Hari Mare Kie’( The one who is protected by God, cannot be killed) proved true once again on December 12, when the two-day-old infant girl was rescued safely from the borewell. She was immediately rushed to VIMSAR, Burla where she was admitted to the SNCU of the hospital.
As she defeated death, she was named ‘Bijayani’ at the hospital. The baby girl’s 21st-day ritual was also celebrated at the hospital.
After spending one month, she was released from the hospital on Thursday. It was learned that she would be taken to a children’s home.

“She is weighing 2,275 grams. She is doing well. She is being fed from the bottle. She is no longer on oxygen support. After being fed, she sleeps well. As per the reports of various tests, she is ready for discharge. As she has been under our observation for a month, we have developed an attachment toward her,” said associate professor of VIMSAR, Dr Birendra Pradhan.
“When she was brought here, she was in a very serious condition. Now she is fit and fine. Her weight is also increasing. Today, we handed her over to the district administration,” said VIMSAR Dean, Jayashree Dora.
Notably, the police have managed to trace the mother of Bijayini. While addressing a presser on January 2, Sambalpur SP, Mukesh Bhamu said, “A case was registered after Bijayini was rescued from the borewell. We had sent Bijayini’s mother to Cuttack for psychiatric evaluation. She was depressed and could not say anything about the incident. We will wait for her recovery and will resume our investigation after her release from the hospital.”
