Illegal gun manufacturing unit busted in Odisha village, 1 arrested
Acting on a tip-off, police officials in Odisha's Angul district on Friday uncovered an illegal firearms manufacturing unit located in Jambua village, under the Khamar police jurisdiction. The raid led to the seizure of various items used for crafting firearms, along with the confiscation of a homemade gun and several hand weapons.
Arrest Made
One suspect identified as Banu Kishan was arrested and has since been presented before the court. The operation was supervised by the Superintendent of Police (SP), Angul. During the investigation, Kishan revealed that each firearm was being sold for between Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000.
Longstanding Practice
Kishan is suspected to have engaged in this illegal arms trade for many years, raising concerns about the potential reach and scale of such illicit activities within the region. After being caught, the accused Benu Kishan claimed innocence and said, “I don’t have a license. I know how to make guns, so I do it for a living. I sell it for Rs 10,000 each. However, I don’t know if the guns are used for poaching.”
