460 school buses are operating in Bhubaneswar without valid fitness certificates.
In a shocking revelation in the Odisha Legislative Assembly, State Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena informed the House that as many as 460 school buses are operating in Bhubaneswar without valid fitness certificates.
In a written response, Jena informed the House that a total of 1,484 school buses are registered in the capital city, but 460 of them lack the necessary fitness certification. Despite this, these buses continue to transport students daily on the busy streets of Bhubaneswar.
The Transport department has formed enforcement teams and is carrying out regular inspection, the Minister informed, adding that e-challans are being issued against the violators.
The Minister also informed the House that 3322 buses, which are over 10-year-old, are plying on different routes of the State.

Meanwhile, the absence of fitness certificates has raised concerns over safety and security of students travelling to schools in those buses.
Parents and concerned citizens have urged authorities to take immediate action to ensure safety of school children.
