Patients at Cuttack’s SCB Medical College & Hospital were a harried lot on Saturday due to power cut for long hours, reports said. Despite repeated complaints, repeated power cuts have remained a major concern in the prestigious medical institute in the state.
As per sources, there was a power outage for hours at the Medical Department, Spinal Injury, Post-mortem Department, and the Mortuary of the hospital yesterday. The power supply was cut off from the morning and continued till noon, reports said.
Patients and attendants had a harrowing time due to the power cut. Many had to leave their beds and go out to get air while others were seen using handmade fans and newspapers to get some respite from humid conditions.
While no exact reason for the power cut was known immediately, reports suggest the outage was caused by contractual electric workers who are engaged in the institute. Such a situation cropped up allegedly due to the cease work agitation by the contractual electric workers over demands of their pending salary, sources said.
Irate patients and their attendants slammed the medical authorities for their sheer negligence.
“While the medical authorities and doctors are enjoying inside AC rooms, we are made to sweat in the heat. Despite repeated complaints, the authorities hardly care to look into the matter. Every day, there is a power cut in some or the other department and it is the patients who face the brunt,” a patient said.
