Residents of Odisha are likely to witness a rise in temperatures from April 20 as the State’s respite from extreme heat draws to an end, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre in Bhubaneswar forecasted on Thursday.

Currently, the region benefits from cooler temperatures due to the seasonal Nor'westers (Kalbaisakhi in local parlance) are keeping the mercury below 40°C. However, meteorologists predict that this cooling influence will diminish within three days, resulting in a noticeable increase in the heat levels.

In particular, interior areas of Odisha are anticipated to exceed temperatures of 40°C. At present, Odisha is experiencing rains as a result of the Kalbaisakhi. The IMD regional centre has predicted thunderstorms and rainfall to continue in some districts of the State over the next five days.

Today and tomorrow, the Kalbaisakhi’s impact is expected to intensify in Odisha, with some areas experiencing winds between 30 and 40 km/h.

Temperature Forecast: No large change is likely in the Maximum (day) temperature during the next three days, thereafter a gradual rise by 2-3°C over the districts of Odisha.
