The Commissionerate Police arrested a highway chain snatcher and recovered gold jewellery from his possession on Monday.

The accused has been identified as Chandan aka Bishnu Prasad Patra of Konark area.

According to sources in the police, Chandan used to come to Bhubaneswar to commit crimes and travel to other states by selling off the looted jewellery.

Chadan, who is involved in seven chain snatching cases under three police stations in the capital city in the last three months, was arrested by the Khandagiri Police.

As many as 19 cases are pending against Chandan, sources in the police informed.

“Four snatchings were reported on Highway, mostly in Nayapalli, Khandagiri and Tamando areas in March. Only one person was involved in the crimes. A team led by Nayapalli Police Station IIC was formed to probe the snatching cases,” said Zone-5 Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Sanjeev Satpathy.

“After checking different parameters, the accused, Chandan aka Bishnu Prasad Patra was found to be a resident of Konark. He used to stay at different hotels in the city and commit the crimes,” Satpathy added.
