More skeletons are tumbling out of the closet as Commissionerate Police registered another case of cheating against the self-styled godman, Kaifi Khan who was arrested by Mangalabag police on Friday.

The second case was registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by a man from Bhadrak who alleged that Kaifi had duped him to the tune of Rs 5 lakh on the pretext of unearthing gold biscuits from the backyard of his house.

The complainant said, “I visited Cuttack’s Kesharpur in connection with a marriage proposal of my daughter. I met Kaifi there. When I explained to him about the problems at home, he assured me to solve all the problems after visiting my house.”

“He told me that gold bricks are buried in my backyard which would be around Rs 1 crore. He asked me to pay him Rs 5 lakh for the rituals and take the bricks out, which I paid him in cash. Kaifi never showed up after receiving the money,” he alleged.

Cuttack DCP, Pinak Mishra said, “Kaifi is involved in many more cheating cases. This is only the second complaint we received against him. We have proof of payments that the victim has made to him. So another case has been registered against him and he will be brought on remand. There are other people who helped Kaifi in the crime. We will nab all of them after the investigation.”

Kaifi is already in police custody after the Mangalabag police arrested him on Friday on charges of duping a 39-year-old woman from Ranihat area to the tune of Rs 62 lakh.

The woman (victim) came in contact with Kaifi through one of her drivers. The victim, a 39-year-old woman was worried about the ill health of her mother and suspected the presence of some ‘negative energy’ at her home.

It was during this phase that the victim got in touch with Kaifi Khan who subsequently visited her house several times. The accused self-styled godman told the victim that there was some negative energy and at the same time there was a hidden treasure in the house.

On the pretext of performing some rituals and digging out the hidden treasure, Kaifi took around Rs 62 lakh from the victim. The accused also handed over some metals, crystals claiming them to be gold and diamonds. The victim only learnt that she has been duped after she verified the metals and found them to be fake. Later, she lodged a formal police complaint in this connection with Mangalabag Police.
