Kal Dam
Similipal in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district has been experiencing relentless rainfall, triggering a rise in river water levels and prompting authorities to take precautionary measures. With continuous downpours in the upper catchment areas, the situation has turned critical at Kal Dam, located under Kaptipada block.
Officials confirmed that the water level in Kal Dam has risen sharply, touching the danger mark of 77.7 cubic meter. In response, dam authorities have opened one gate to manage the inflow and maintain structural safety. Reports indicate that while 17 cusec of water is entering the dam, the outflow stands at 21 cusec.
With the monsoon showing no signs of slowing, local administration and dam authorities remain on high alert. The possibility of opening additional gates has not been ruled out if the inflow continues to rise. Residents in low-lying areas downstream have been advised to stay vigilant and prepare for potential flooding.
While there have been no reports of immediate damage, officials have urged people living near riverbanks to avoid venturing out unnecessarily and to adhere to safety advisories. The district administration has deployed monitoring teams to assess the situation and coordinate with local panchayats.
