An intense spell of rain under the influence of Western Disturbances lashed several parts of the State on Saturday morning, pouring misery on the people living in the low-lying areas.
As Bhubaneswar has earned a bad name for the water logging problem in the wake of even a slight drizzle, several parts of the city offered the same picture on Saturday morning.
The worst affected area was Nayapalli where the people had a tough time fighting with the water logging issue. The stretch from Nayapalli square to ISKCON temple was submerged, affecting traffic movement. Similarly, rainwater entered houses in low-lying areas in the locality.
“We had never thought that such a normal rainfall would affect us so severely. As we were not prepared, many things were damaged when rainwater entered our house,” complained a Behere Sahi resident.
Similarly, torrential rains battered most parts of Millennium City Cuttack. Under its impact, a spectator gallery at Banki College, which was inaugurated seven days ago, collapsed on Saturday morning. However, no casualty was reported.
Notably, Banki Works Department got the gallery constructed through a contractor. Higher Education Minister Rohit Pujari inaugurated it on March 23. Locals alleged that the use of substandard construction materials led to such a mishap.
