Seized Cash From Residence Of Baikuntha Nath Sarangi
It may take years for a common man to create wealth and assets from his known sources of income after meeting his daily requirements and family needs. But the Vigilance officials on Friday were shocked after they stumbled upon huge assets amassed by a government official in Odisha following simultaneous searches today.
The government official in dock is Baikuntha Nath Sarangi, posted as chief engineer (Plan Roads), RW Department in Bhubaneswar.
According to senior Vigilance officials, they have also found that Sarangi has invested around Rs 2.70 crore in the stock market. He also has bank and insurance deposits to the tune of Rs 1.5 crore.
Baikuntha Nath Sarangi had entered into government service as a Stipendiary Engineer in Kaniha block under the Panchayati Raj Department at a consolidated pay of Rs. 2,000 per month. Then, he worked as a Stipendiary Engineer in different Blocks across the state of Odisha till July 1999.
On 15.10.1999, Sarangi was regularised as Assistant Engineer and posted to PWD Division, Sundargarh, and worked under different PWD Divisions and RD Sub-Division, Talcher till 2012.
Again in the year 2014, Sarangi was promoted to the rank of Assistant Executive Engineer and posted to the RD Sub-Division, Athamallik.
In October 2016, Sarangi was promoted to the rank of Executive Engineer and posted to the RD Division, Deogarh. In January 2023, he was promoted as Additional Chief Engineer and from February 2025 till date is acting as Chief Engineer, Plan Roads, RW Department, Bhubaneswar.
