Tata Group’s chairman emeritus and veteran industrialist Ratan Tata passed away at a Mumbai hospital late Wednesday night. Tata, who led the salt-to-software conglomerate to new heights, was 86.
A recipient of Padma Vibhushan, Ratan Tata has an immense contribution to nation building. Apart from being one of India's most successful business tycoons, he is known for his philanthropic activities.
From transforming Odisha’s industrial landscape through Kalinganagar steel plant in Jajpur to being a part of Jaga Mission in Ganjam and the Gopalpur project, Ratan Tata transformed millions of lives in Odisha.
Tata, who visited Odisha multiple times, came to Odisha on 30th December 1995 for Gopalpur steel plant. The then Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao had laid the foundation stone for the ambitious project.
Later in 2008, Ratan Tata joined hands with the Odisha government for Jaga Mission project to provide house to slum dwellers in the State.
Besides, Tata Trusts, under the leadership of Ratan Tata, worked towards education, skill development and healthcare facilities in Odisha.
Moreover, his generosity during the times of crisis proves that he is titan who cared about the mankind.
His Tata Trusts and Tata companies were among the first to offer disaster relief to Odisha after the state was ravaged in the 1999 super cyclone and Cyclone Fani in 2019.
