Cuttack police on Tuesday arrested four fraudsters who allegedly duped two police personnel of Rs 10 lakh by posing as special police officers.

The accused have been identified as Manoj Patnaik, Saroj Kanta Jena, Rajesh Kumar Khuntia, and Sushant Kumar Sethi.

As per the police, their modus operandi involved taking gullible people into confidence by posing as police officers.

In this case too, the accused who frequented the police lines in Cuttack met two unsuspecting police personnel. After winning their trust, the accused offered them to return 20 percent more money in exchange for whatever amount they give them.

The accused used plain papers in place of currency notes while returning money to the victims and fled the spot before the victims discovered that they have been duped.

Speaking to the press, Cuttack Additional DCP, Anil Mishra said, “Not only in Cuttack, but they have duped innocent people in other areas like Dhenkanal, Bhubaneswar and Sundargarh as well.”

The police have recovered a car, Rs 1.3 lakh cash, and a gold chain from the accused.

However, one of the accused, Saroj Kanta Jena said, “The people who have complained against us are also not innocent. They also take some kind of commission from the transaction.”
