Former BJD MP Pinaki Mishra accused of financial irregularities, money laundering & defence row

Former BJD MP from Puri, Pinaki Mishra, has come under the scanner following a series of serious allegations, including financial irregularities, money laundering, and raising sensitive questions in Parliament linked to national security.

According to national media reports, Mishra has been accused of involvement in suspicious property dealings, money laundering through trusts, and routing foreign funds in questionable ways. Allegations also point towards large cash deposits made during the demonetisation period, raising concerns over financial irregularities.

More significantly, Mishra is accused of repeatedly asking questions in Parliament on highly sensitive defence matters, including details about India’s nuclear submarines, missile systems, operational capacities and even posing anti-Russia queries.

Questions On National Security

The news reports claim that the former BJD MP sought specific information on the number of active nuclear submarines in the country and on classified platforms such as INS Arihant and INS Chakra. Such queries, according to the complaints, posed potential risks to national security and raised doubts over the intent behind them.

Two separate complaints have reportedly been lodged, one focusing on financial improprieties and questionable property transactions while the other underlines repeated interventions in Parliament on issues of strategic defence importance. 

The Ministry of Home Affairs and the Enforcement Directorate are said to have acknowledged the complaints, and preliminary investigations have already been initiated.

Mishra’s Wife & TMC MP Mahua Moitra Also Under Scanner

The allegations also draw parallels with the controversy surrounding Mishra’s wife, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, who had earlier been accused of asking parliamentary questions allegedly to benefit a businessman. The current developments, therefore, have widened the scope of scrutiny, bringing Mishra’s activities under the investigative lens.

In addition, corporate conflict of interest has also been cited as part of the allegations, with questions being raised on whether Mishra’s parliamentary interventions were influenced by external business interests. Sources suggest that the authorities are likely to examine this angle as the probe progresses.

Despite several attempts to contact him, Mishra’s response to the allegations could not be obtained.
