Police have cracked the murder case of a young BJD leader in Kandhamal district and claimed that he was murdered by a woman with whom he was having an extramarital affair.

The body of Papu alias Sanjit Kumar Mallick, Kandhamal District Youth BJD Vice-President was found in the government quarters of a Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) last month. He was the son of Dadaki panchayat sarpanch.

Mallick was allegedly having an extramarital affair with the accused woman since the last 1-2 years. The accused woman confessed to suffocating him to death using a pillow for allegedly forcing her to keep physical relationship with him and blackmailing her.

“We had received a report that the body of Papu alias Sanjeet Mallick was recovered from a quarters. We launched a probe after a case of murder was registered in this connection. During the investigation, we came to know that he was in an illicit relationship with a married woman. The two had been involved in physical relationship since the last 1-2 years,” informed Phulbani Sadar SDPO Suprasan Mallick.

“However, the two were at loggerheads as Papu had taken money from her and wasn’t returning it. He was also allegedly threatening to tarnish her image by circulating her intimate pictures and videos and telling others about their affair. The woman alleged that he was forcing her to keep a physical relationship with him.”

“So, the woman had decided to kill him. On the fateful night, the two maintained physical relationship while Papu was fully drunk. Taking advantage of being fully drunk, the woman suffocated him to death with a pillow. She later took his phone and had buried it in an isolated place.”

“During interrogation, she confessed to her crime and showed us the location of the phone that has been sent for verification of call details and chat history. The woman has confessed to her crime and has been produced before the court,” the SDPO added.
