A 16-member committee formed under the chairmanship of former judge Justice Biswanath Rath will take a final decision on the opening of the Srimandir Ratna Bhandar on July 6, informed Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan on Thursday. 

Putting an end to the discussions surrounding the opening of the treasure trove of the Puri Jagannath temple, the Law Minister said, “Acting on the direction of the Orissa High Court, the state government has formed a 16-member committee headed by former judge Justice Biswanath Rath. The committee has some distinguished personalities from different sections of the society.”

“The committee will sit on July 6 to decide the modalities on how the work will progress. It will also fix a day, when there will be no deities in the temple, for the opening of Ratna Bhandar, the repair of the inner treasure trove and the beginning of the inventory of ornaments and jewels. It will also decide how the inventory will be done and what external agencies will be included for testing the quality of the ornaments," he said.

 
The government will start the process of reopening of the Ratna Bhandar as per the date announced by the committee, the minister added.
