A farmer was tragically electrocuted in Kushapangi, Cuttack, due to a wild boar poaching trap. Villagers protested with a road blockade demanding accountability. Police assured action post-investigation.

A farmer was electrocuted to death after coming in contact with a live electric wire laid for the poaching of wild boar at  Kushapangi village under Banki in Cuttack district on Saturday. 

According to sources, the mishap occurred when the farmer was on his way to his farmland when he accidentally stepped on the live wire, leading to his death on the spot.

Public Outrage and Road Blockade

The incident sparked outrage among villagers and the deceased’s family members. Following the incident, locals staged a road blockade demanding the immediate arrest of the person who had set up the trap. The agitators block the Cuttack-Banki main road, bringing hundreds of vehicles to a halt. The family insisted that those responsible be held accountable and demanded intervention from local authorities.

Police and Administrative Intervention

Banki police and administrative officials reached the site to manage the situation. After discussions with the protestors and assurances that action would be taken, the road blockade was eventually lifted.

Police Statement on the Incident

Dilip Bhuyan, IIC of Banki Police Station, said, “A farmer from their village lost his life due to electrocution after coming into contact with a wire. This tragic incident angered the locals, leading them to stage a road blockade while demanding compensation. They also insisted on the presence of the Tehsildar and officials from the Electricity Department. Following the incident, the Electrical SDO and JE arrived at the spot to assess the situation. They interacted with the family members, and after assurances were given by the authorities, the road blockade was lifted.”

He further added, “Anyone found responsible for the incident will definitely be arrested once evidence is gathered. The family is yet to lodge a formal complaint with us. We will be able to take further action only after receiving the official complaint and the necessary evidence. The body will also be sent for post-mortem examination.”
