Family feud turns tragic as elderly man sets son, daughter-in-law on fire in Cuttack

In Cuttack's Barasingha village, Gobardhan Rout allegedly set his son and daughter-in-law on fire over a family dispute. They are hospitalised with severe burns.

In a tragic unfolding of events, an elderly man allegedly set his son, and daughter-in-law on fire after pouring petrol on them over some family dispute.

The shocking incident was reported in Barasingha village of the Godisahi area under the Baranga police station limits of Cuttack district.


As per sources, the accused, identified as Gobardhan Rout, poured petrol on his son and daughter-in-law before setting them on fire. The couple has sustained critical burn injuries.

Nearby residents of the village promptly swung into action and rescued the young couple from being consumed by the flames.

The victims were then rushed to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack with critical injuries.

Meanwhile, Police have detained the accused father to ascertain the motive and circumstances that allegedly led him to resort to such extreme and the ongoing family dispute.
