Chilling details have surfaced regarding the motive of a father who allegedly set his son and daughter-in-law on fire in Cuttack district over some dispute in Godisahi area of Barasingha village under the Baranga police station where a woman succumbed died and her husband is undergoing treatment in the ICU. The entire incident is said to be the fallout of some dispute over rent money.
Screaming in agony, Dinabandhu ran outside where his wife, Sasmita Rout tried to extinguish the fire in a bid to save him. It is alleged that Gobardhan then poured petrol on his daughter-in-law Sasmita and again on his son.
Hearing their screams, villagers rushed to their aid following which the couple was rushed to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack with critical burn injuries.
“We do not know why he (Gobardhan) took this extreme step. All of us were having dinner when we heard a commotion only to see that he was pouring petrol over his son. There were some issues regarding money though,” stated Dinabandhu’s grandmother.
As per the last reports, Sasmita succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment whereas her husband Dinabandhu remains in a critical condition.
Meanwhile, Baranga police along with a forensic team have started an investigation into the matter. The accused Gobardhan has been detained in connection with the incident.
