File photo of fake DSP Manas Senapati
Authorities in Odisha are grappling with a bizarre case of impersonation following the arrest of an individual charged with posing as a police officer (Deputy Superintendent of Police). The man had taken his photo inside the Bhubaneswar police control room and posted it on social media. This has raised the eyebrows of many, sources said on Tuesday.
According to sources, the accused identified as Manas Ranjan Senapati had shared a purported promotion letter on his social media profiles, indicating an elevation to the position of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). The legitimacy of this document claimed to have been issued by the Home Department is now under scrutiny.
Adding to the intrigue are photographs circulating online that exhibit the accused inside the Bhubaneswar police control room. The disclosure has sparked concerns and challenges around security measures, as authorities investigate how the accused obtained access to a restricted area meant for authorized personnel only.
Worth mentioning, the accused man was arrested by Saheed Nagar Police in Bhubaneswar on Monday. He belongs to the Basudevpur locality of Bhadrak. Allegedly, he had been deceiving people by posing as a senior police officer, using a fake police uniform and ID card.
During night patrolling, Commissionerate Police-Bhubaneswar had stopped a car. The driver identified himself as Manas Ranjan Senapati and claimed that he was serving as a probationer in Odisha Police Service, DSP.
Another person on board the vehicle disclosed his identity as Ashis Swain and serving as a probationer constable. Both were arrested yesterday and forwarded to court.
