Former Dhenkanal MLA Naveen Nanda has set an example for others by solemnising the marriage of his daughter-in-law following the death of his son Sambit due to Covid on 22 May 2021.

According to reports, the former legislator organised the marriage at Laxmi temple located at Nayapalli in Bhubaneswar in a low-key manner after taking the consent of the two families.

Notably, Sambit had died while undergoing treatment for his lung infection at a private hospital in Cuttack in 2021.

Sambit was admitted to Aswini Hospital in Cuttack in personal interference of Health secretary PK Mohapatra.

However, Sambit’s condition deteriorated and he required Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) as he did not respond to non-invasive ventilator.

Before the death of his son, the former MLA had requested the Chief Minister, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan to help him save his son’s life. The ECMO facilities were not available in Cuttack at that time.

Deceased Sambit’s father, Naveen Nanda had unsuccessfully contested the Assembly election in 2019 from Dhenkanal on Congress ticket. He was earlier elected to State Assembly from Gondia Assembly segment on a BJD ticket.
