Dhenkanal: Son of former MLA Nabin Nanda, Sambit today passed away while undergoing treatment for his lungs infection at a private hospital in Cuttack.

Sambit was admitted to Aswini Hospital in Cuttack in personal interference of Health secretary PK Mohapatra on Friday night, Naveen had informed through a tweet.

However, Sambit’s condition deteriorated and required Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) as he did not respond to non-invasive ventilator. 

Before the death of his son, the former MLA had requested the Chief Minister, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan to help him save his son’s life. The ECMO facilities are not available in Cuttack.

Meanwhile, BJP national vice-president Baijayant Panda expressed grief over the untimely demise of Sambit, whom he termed as a ‘rising star’ in a tweet.

Similarly, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also expressed grief over the passing away of the ex-MLA’s son. Through a tweet, he offered his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family as he had a personal relationship with the former legislator. 

Deceased Sambit’s father, Naveen Nanda had unsuccessfully contested the Assembly election in 2019 from Dhenkanal on Congress ticket. He was earlier elected to State Assembly from Gondia Assembly segment from BJD
