An extensive survey for housing under the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awas Yojana (PMAY-G) is underway across rural Odisha and is to conclude in two months. Eligible applicants will not be left out, Panchayati Raj Minister Rabi Narayan Naik said on Wednesday.

According to sources, the State government is prioritising efforts to ensure inclusivity, with Gram Sabha playing a key role in raising awareness in every village through special campaigns and preventing any exclusions from this significant data collection drive.

The Minister emphasised the importance of this initiative, particularly in reaching out to the impoverished and marginalised groups. “We are committed to ensuring that every citizen's needs are represented. To this end, several departmental trainers are actively conducting awareness sessions in villages, fostering greater community participation,” he stated.

In light of past instances under the previous government, where alleged political motivations led to the exclusion of many eligible poor from housing lists, the BJP-led government is now intensely focusing on the extensive survey. There is a need to reach out to people.

Ministers including Naik have been visiting different districts to evaluate the progress and ensure transparency in the survey. Discussions with his Central counterpart regarding the housing survey situation are on the agenda for his upcoming New Delhi visit, he further informed.
