The accused in the local police station
In a shocking and heart-wrenching incident, a 70-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his own son in Charbhati village under Kuchinda police limits of Sambalpur district. The brutal incident, which occurred on Thursday evening, has left the entire village in shock.
According to eyewitnesses and preliminary police investigation, the accused, Bibaradhan Raksha (23), returned home in an inebriated state and demanded money from his father, Kripasindhu Raksha (70), to buy more liquor. When the elderly father refused, citing his son’s worsening condition due to addiction, a heated argument broke out between them.
The argument quickly turned violent. In a fit of rage, Bibaradhan allegedly pushed his father to the ground and repeatedly struck him on the head and face, killing him on the spot. Villagers reported that the accused stayed near his father’s lifeless body for hours before fleeing the scene when police were informed.
Upon receiving the alert, Kuchinda police rushed to the village and launched a manhunt. The accused was later traced, detained, and taken into custody for interrogation.
“The accused is in custody, and a detailed investigation is underway,” a police official confirmed.
The incident has sparked deep sorrow and anger among locals, who described the victim as a humble and respected man in the community. Many have urged authorities to take strict action against the accused and address the growing menace of alcohol addiction in rural areas.
