Sarbeswar Behera was critically injured after he was allegedly assaulted by three persons at Sai Kripa Drug de-addiction centre. However, he succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment at Hi-Tech Hospital in the city.

Yesterday, the police arrested three accused in this connection on the basis of the complaint of the deceased's wife Urmila Behera. The arrested have been identified as Anirudha Ray, 30, Ankit Rout alias Papuni, 25, and Antaryami Mishra, 25.

The cops have also seized a wooden plank from their possession used by them to commit the crime.

According to sources, Sarbeswar was a habitual drunkard. So, his wife Urmila Behera got him admitted to ‘Sai Kripa’ drug de-addiction centre. The main accused assured her to help Sarbeswar recover from drinking and took Rs 7000 from her.

Just a few days after, Urmila came to know that her husband was brutally beaten by the accused trio and admitted him to Hi-Tech Hospital. She rushed to the hospital to find her husband admitted to the ICU who later succumbed to his injuries.

Based on a complaint by the deceased’s wife, police registered a case and produced the three in a court. They were later sent to judicial custody after the court rejected their bail pleas.
