‘Don’t search for me’; last message of Bhubaneswar youth who jumped into river over online trading loss

Loss in online trading was the prime reason that promoted Bhubaneswar youth Mrutyunjay Manik to jump into Mahanadi river from Jobra barrage in Cuttack on Tuesday. His body is yet to be traced.

The personnel of Odisha Fire Services Department are carrying out search operations which entered its second day on Wednesday. The family members Mrutyunjay informed that he had initially lost Rs 10 lakh in online trading and recently suffered another loss of Rs 4 lakh.

“We had not asked for money. He had withdrawn money from his savings account. He used to repay the bank from profits. Recently, two days back, he had lost Rs 4 lakh,” said a relative of Mrutyunjay.

The family members stated that Mrutyunjay had texted his sister for the last time and appeared depressed. Later, his mobile got switched off and they could not contact him.

“I have committed a mistake. Don’t search for me and I have lost," he had sent a message to his sister. "We had said him to work hard and repay the money. His morale broke after the recent loss and he could not cope up with the pressure,” the relative added.

Meanwhile, the personnel of Odisha Fire Services are also continuing a search operation to trace the body of one Anup Agarwal, who allegedly jumped into Mahandi river from Madhusudan Setu on Tuesday night.

“We are carrying out two search operations, one in Jobra and Madhusudan Setu area,” said an official.
