Physical constraints cannot be deterrent in the manifestation of one’s inner talent and qualities. Bharat Majhi from Tadang village in Kandhamal district has proved this adage.
Though Bharat is not able to see clearly and stand properly, he still captivates the hearts of people with his enchanting voice.
Bharat was leading a normal life during his childhood. However, he lost his vision, standing and walking capacity due to some unknown disease in 2012.
Though he became a divyang for the rest of his life, it failed to deter his spirit. He understood that life is too precious to fret over one’s limitations. He focused on his strength and started focusing on singing melodious songs with his god-gifted voice.
His lack of vision has been overcompensated by his powerful memory. He can memorize any song by listening it once. By using his divine power, he is determined to entertain people and in the process, he forgets his own worries and suffering.
He is now very much popular in his area due to his enchanting voice. Wherever he goes, people often surround around him to hear and enjoy his sweet, soothing, and melodious songs.
Any small and big festivals in the area are incomplete without Bharat’s songs. He is in huge demand in his area for singing bhajans and sankirtana songs.
However, Bharat’s personal life is full of sorrow and suffering. He is earning his livelihood with a meagre divyang allowance of Rs 500 and is fully dependent on his elderly parents. He was a good student. However, he could study only up to Class VIII due to his physical constraint.
“I am interested to read more and learn formal singing. I request the administration to extend helping hand to fulfill my aim,” said Bharat.
The family members of Bharat are ecstatic about Bharat’s progress.
“We are very much happy that Bharat is singing well and the people of our area have accepted him and they are praising his exceptional talent. We are poor people. We request the administration to help our divyang son fulfill his ambition,” said Bharat’s father Sushant Majhi.
