Did Puri vlogger Priyanka and YouTuber Jyoti use drone over Jagannath Temple?

Priyanka Senapati, a resident and travel vlogger from Puri, is under close scrutiny by local police due to her alleged ties with the arrested Haryana-based YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra. Priyanka is suspected of espionage. A dedicated team is conducting a probe.

The possibility of Jyoti operating drones during her visit is also under examination, adding another layer of complexity to the probe. Puri Superintendent of Police (SP) Vinit Agrawal has confirmed that Priyanka's financial activities are being thoroughly reviewed.

CCTV footage of hotel stay unavailable

The matter dates back to September 21 last year, when Jyoti Malhotra stayed alongside an elderly woman in room number ‘203’ at Jagannath Ballabh Bhakta Niwas for two days, submitting all necessary identification documents during the stay. However, CCTV footage review for that period by hotel management has yielded inconclusive results, given that the time is around eight months.

Investigators are currently examining potential connections between Priyanka and Jyoti, including whether Priyanka acted as a local guide or facilitated the filming of sites like the Jagannath Temple. Probe includes financial elements, determining if Priyanka sponsored Jyoti's vlogging ventures and tracing the financial flow of any funds exchanged.

Authorities are particularly vigilant about any information leakage to Pakistan, especially with the upcoming Rath Yatra on the horizon. As the situation potentially involves national security, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) may also become involved in questioning Priyanka in the days ahead.

Security at the 12th-century old Puri Jagannath Temple has been intensified significantly. Preparations have included increased patrols around Puri, deployment of Quick Response (QR) teams, and stringent checks at all entry points.

In anticipation of the forthcoming Rath Yatra of the Holy Trinity in Puri, comprehensive safety measures will be implemented to safeguard all participants.

“We are probing into all possible angles. The ‘drone’ part has also come to our notice, and we are verifying it. The entire matter will be taken very seriously. That has also been included in our investigation,” the Puri SP told mediapersons.
